Short term crisis

Cost for Bush to privatize Social Security? Around 2 trillion dollars in ten years.

Cost of Social Security shortfall based on estimates by the Congressional Budget Office? 2 trillion dollars over 75 years.

So we can either rush headlong into a solution that achieves nothing, pushes more risk off onto the eldery, and allows the wealthy on wall street to reap huge dividends while causing a huge spike in the deficit, or we can take a breath, think about the best solution to an occurrence 75 years off (and that's only if the GDP doesn't remain stronger than forecast), and in the meantime come up with idea that everyone generally agrees might have an impact and that the American people might actually support.

The only crisis in the Social Security debate seems to be listening to our President.
