“This administration is populated by people who’ve spent their careers bashing government. They’re not just small-government conservatives—they’re Grover Norquist, strangle-it-in-the-bathtub conservatives. It’s a cognitive disconnect for them to be able to do something well in an arena that they have so derided and reviled all these years.”

Pelosi calls it likes she sees it

Nancy Pelosi today:
"The Republicans did not have an election about jobs, health care, education, environment, national security. They had an election about wedge issues in our country, and you know what they are," she said.

"They exploited the loveliness of the American people, the devoutness of people of faith for a political end."

Those on the right, of course, think she's just bitter. Were it their side that was in the minority, however, I'm sure they would sing a different tune.

And that is why bipartisan politics is doomed to failure in America. Neither side is willing to cede anything to the other. What does Pelosi and company gain from working with Republicans this time around? Not a thing. What does Hastert gain from reaching out to the Democrats? Well, he looks like a healer for a while, but he doesn't really need to do a thing. Republicans have the majority, and need little help from Pelosi to get things done.

Did Democrats really lose that much in the house because of issues of Pelosi? No. Of the seven seats lost by the Democrats in the house, five of them were due to the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre," Delay's redistricting of Texas which the courts may eventually find unconstitutional.

In my opinion, Captain Ed and all the other conservatives who don't like Pelosi's attitude can stick it. She's fighting for me, not sucking up to you.
