Bush pushes new sales tax
Bush flipith, the Administration flopith:
Administration officials on Wednesday denied that President Bush is considering a national sales tax, a day after the Republican incumbent created a stir by calling such a tax "an interesting idea that we ought to explore seriously."
The proposal came out during a townhall meeting in Niceville, Florida. The Kerry campaign was quick to point out the well rehearsed nature of these event. I would like to point out the actual words that Bush uses(my emphasis):
"It's an interesting idea. You know, I'm not exactly sure how big the national sales tax is going to have to be, but it's the kind of interesting idea that we ought to explore seriously."
Note it is not a "would have to be," but is rather a more active "is going to have to be." I realize Bush does not have such great command over the English language, but you must admit the odd phrasing of the thing.
While I was out, Kevin Drum did his research.
*UPDATE*
Apparently the Bush chats are so scripted, even the audience gets a copy.
Makes me wonder even more...
