One of us. One of us.
Yesterday I talked about what happens to Republicans who do not conform to the party in Tennessee. Apparently it happens in Michigan, too:
John VanWyck resigned Friday as chairman of the Muskegon County Republican Party. He also gave up his spot on the county Republican executive committee.
VanWyck drew fire in recent weeks after openly endorsing Tim Michalski in the 92nd District State House race, despite the fact that Michalski is a Democrat.
He also said he would support Michalski in the general election against Republican Bob Cutler, if Michalski won the Democratic nomination.
VanWyck said he chose to endorse Michalski because he is a longtime friend, and because the 92nd District leans Democratic, so the winner of the primary will probably win the general election. He said Michalski was the only candidate among the Democrats who was not controlled by special interests.
Again according to Republicans, it is not okay to endorse who you think is best qualified for the job, but rather you must stick with the party line no matter what.
Party loyalty over people could be day two of the RNC.
