Perhaps the dumbest poll question ever
From a Zogby poll liked by the Alamo City Commando:
"If a disabled person is not terminally ill, not in a coma, and not being kept alive on life support, and they have no written directive, should or should they not be denied food and water," the poll asked.
A whopping 79 percent said the patient should not have food and water taken away while just 9 percent said yes.
So basically the question is, should we give disabled persons food and water. I'm more surprised that 9% said no, but I imagine they implied the Terri Schiavo situation in their head when they did.
Of course it's unsurprising that a majority of people would support feeding those confined to wheelchairs, disabled veterans, and those with back pain so severe they can't work at a regular job. This question does not specifically address the Terri Schiavo issue that the "Alamo City Commando" claims it does, because it lacks the specifics of the case at hand.
Of course, he wants his local paper to post it as proof that Americans love the action of extreme and overreaching Republicans in the House and Senate. And it just ain't, man. Let it go.
Not surprisingly, it's linked favorably by Jonah Goldberg.
*UPDATE* I should have known the folks at Powerline would link it as well, calling it, "a fairer way of describing Terri Schiavo's situation." Minus the brain liquification, that is. And the vegetative state. And the fact that doctors said she wouldn't recover. And the fact the courts rulled that's what she would have wanted. And the fact the question doesn't mention feeding tubes.
Other than that, a much fairer way.
