An open message to the news media of America
Newspeople -
In your wrap up reporting on the Terri Schiavo case and it's implications on the future of America, can we please stop seeing quotes like this:
"If there's any doubt, than life trumps death," said Donnelly, in Kansas. "I'm a quadriplegic, been that way for 28 years. I would hate for somebody else to decide my life is not worth living."
Mr Donnelly's case is nothing like that of Terri Schiavo. He is not in a persistent vegetative state and does not have almost a third of his brain turned to liquid. He can actually think and express himself. Therefore, as long as he states that he wants to live, no court in the nation is going to allow him to be put to death (unless he commits a capital crime in Texas, but that's a different story).
Also, why not spend more time on the biggest precedent set, the fact that Congress intervened on a personal matter between families because they did not like the outcome. How about an article discussing the future implications of that?
Thanks,
Scott
