Jeff Session's Social Security history

I'm not quite sure why I found this so interesting, but here it is. Republican Representative Jeff Sessions of Alabama hasn't made his mind up about President Bush's proposal to privatize Social Security. He wants to take a "cautious and deliberate" approach to the manner, to which I say good for him.

But tucked in the article is this little factoid:
When Shelby ran against former Republican Sen. Jeremiah Denton in 1986, he attacked his political rival for voting to cut Social Security. Shelby, at that time a Democrat, won the election.

Funny now the very vilification that got him his seat may come back to haunt him now, no?
