I don't have access to Lexis/Nexus searches, so I'm going out on a limb to defend this quote by Harry Reid:
"Most of us have no problem with taking a small amount of the Social Security proceeds and putting it into the private sector."
I can assume, knowing this is still the position of some Democrats, that he was talking of private accounts in addition to the already guaranteed benefits of Social Security. Not raiding the trust fund and then hoping people can make up the difference on their own.
Again, it's just a hunch. I'm sorry I haven't the time to research it right now.
