“This administration is populated by people who’ve spent their careers bashing government. They’re not just small-government conservatives—they’re Grover Norquist, strangle-it-in-the-bathtub conservatives. It’s a cognitive disconnect for them to be able to do something well in an arena that they have so derided and reviled all these years.”

Should the rich pay more into Social Security?

In an article on Social Security, featuring the false claim that Bush's plan for privatizing is as a result of growing public concern and not his overhyped "crisis" mentality, there was this:
"Social Security is not in a crisis for many years to come," said economics professor Dr. John Nelson. "The simple solution is to take the lid off people who pay into the program. [Alex Rodriguez] makes over $27 million with the Yankees but he pays the same amount in Social Security taxes as someone who is making in the $80,000s."

I initally thought this wouldn't sell anywhere, but after a chat with a friend of mine, I realized that it could if we set up the right "demons" to lay in the equation. Kenneth Lay would be a good one, or even Martha Stewart. What about Barbara Streisand and Linda Ronstadt for the bogeymen on the right?

Any other suggestions?
