Rushing to conclusions
Somehow I ended up at Rush Limbaugh's website today where the discussed Bush's choice for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales (you can find the link yourself). He seemed a little incredulous that the news media would remind the public that Gonzales was the man responsible for the now infamous torture memos. So I read the transcript, eager to see how a guy like Rush would defend the guy. And of course, he doesn't.
Instead, he does a classic bait and switch. Sure Alberto may have made it okay to use Abu Ghraib as a disgusting verb while bringing disgrace to America world wide, but look at what a tough struggle he had growing up! And his mom still lives in the same two bedroom house he grew up in with his seven siblings! Don't forget he's Hispanic, too!
Rush's reasoning is that a person's background is the most important consideration when choosing the nation's "top cop," not his stance and decisions on actual law issues.
And with that, I've set myself up for a joke involving Rush and his unfortunate condition, but I just can't bring myself to make it. Which in turn, separates me from Rush, because his secondary arguement for Gonzales has something to do with Pat Leahy, whom Rush frequently belittles.
Mockery is the stuff of morals, eh Rush?
