GOP disappoints school kids, ignore debate
I'm not sure about the GOP strategy in failing to show up for events, but it seems to be continuing. This time they have decided not to show up for a debate in Iowa set up by Muscatine High School senior US Government class:
It’s not what it started out to be and it’s not everything some Muscatine High School seniors hoped it would be.
As it turns out, the political forum at 6 p.m. today in the MHS auditorium will provide attendees an opportunity to learn more about four area Democratic candidates running for a seat in the Iowa Legislature. Their Republican opponents have declined to participate.
The event is the result of a U.S. government class assignment that requires students to volunteer 10 hours of time doing something in the political arena.
Students, under the direction of two government teachers, had worked to create a debate between area Democrats and Republicans. The Muscatine Journal and Muscatine radio station KWPC offered to sponsor the event. But when the local GOP candidates failed to commit by the end of last week, both media outlets pulled out.
Way to let those school kids down. Anyone want to bet most of those kids now lean Democrat?
