“This administration is populated by people who’ve spent their careers bashing government. They’re not just small-government conservatives—they’re Grover Norquist, strangle-it-in-the-bathtub conservatives. It’s a cognitive disconnect for them to be able to do something well in an arena that they have so derided and reviled all these years.”

An Ohio update

First, the good news. Kerry leads in the latest poll by 2%. The poll was conducted by the University of Cincinnati and has a margin of error of 3.4%. The poll also reveals a third of Ohio voters think the economy is the number one issue come November.

Keep that in mind as you hear the unemployment rate in Ohio went up in July to 5.9%.

ABC News is nice enough to gather the unemployment rates for all the battleground states in a easy to read chart. Rates have remained fairly steady since May of this year in all states listed, with an exception or two.

Back to Ohio, the Cincinnati Post has an article about the lack of improvement in the Ohio economy.
While many signs point to an improving economy, many workers, small-business owners and others have yet to see the signs translated to jobs, better pay and fatter profits.

For laid-off workers at Newport Steel, this so-called jobless recovery is just jobless.

Finally, on Tuesday a lawsuit was filed in Ohio for doing what Florida tried to do, denying the voting rights of reformed felons.
The lawsuit estimates there are 7,000 to 21,000 ex-felons who have been released and legally eligible to vote in Ohio in the November general election.
