Detroit Free Press:
Initial signs for Bob Gosselin and Jerry Vander Roest, former lawmakers attempting comebacks in 2004, were not encouraging.
Both were blindsided last week by leaks -- no doubt politically motivated -- to the media about arrests in the not-so-distant past (Gosselin in 1998; Vander Roest last fall) for soliciting a prostitute. Gosselin, it turned out, also was arrested in 1994 for indecent exposure.
Both claimed to have been victims of circumstance, who happened to pull their vehicles to the curb and chat with undercover police officers who were posing as prostitutes.
I did not realize you could get arrested for talking to a prostitute unless that talk involved an exchange of sex for money. In all fairness, I've never done any reasearch on it.
