I think we knew this already
David Kay, the former chief US weapons inspector was interviewed on the BBC today. I'm not sure if what he said was news or not, since we pretty much already knew this. But maybe it will help some of those who still have hopes get it through their heads.
"Anyone out there holding - as I gather Prime Minister Blair has recently said - the prospect that, in fact, the Iraq Survey Group is going to unmask actual weapons of mass destruction, are really delusional," he said.
He also called on American and British leaders to apologize to the world for making such statements before the war.
He also went on to say that there was an intention to start the weapons programs again, and that they had violated UN resolutions. But there are not actual stockpiles there.
And do I hear a dimissive tone in this quote, as much as you can hear on the web, that is?
"We simply got it wrong," he said. "Iraq was a dangerous country, Saddam was an evil man and we are better off without him and all of that. But we were wrong in our estimation."
It is as if he says, "yeah, I know all those other arguments. I've heard them again and again. But the call to war was largely Saddam had WMD's. And he didn't. So the whole call to war was wrong."
Maybe I'm just reading too much into it.
