“This administration is populated by people who’ve spent their careers bashing government. They’re not just small-government conservatives—they’re Grover Norquist, strangle-it-in-the-bathtub conservatives. It’s a cognitive disconnect for them to be able to do something well in an arena that they have so derided and reviled all these years.”

Much ado about nothing

While it's regrettable that Nancy Pelosi ran into trouble with the FEC in March of 2004, the fact is the FEC and Pelosi's PACs reached conciliation agreements, Pelosi's groups paid fines, and the FEC considers the case closed.

Don't believe me? Ask the FEC:
The Federal Election Commission (FEC) has resolved a number of allegations concerning contributions made and received by two affiliated committees, PAC to the Future and Team Majority, leadership PACs that are associated with Representative Nancy Pelosi (D CA). The FEC has entered into conciliation agreements with PAC to the Future and Team Majority, and three campaigns that were recipients of excessive contributions.

(snip)

The FEC can close a case at any point after reviewing a complaint. If a violation is found and conciliation cannot be reached, then the FEC can institute a civil court action against a respondent.

So there you go. An investigation found a problem, Pelosi's PACs paid fines, and that's the end of the story.

And in answer to the GOP Bloggers post asking, "Why isn't this big news?" my first instinct is to suggest because it occurred over a year and a half ago.

Maybe that's just me.

Oh, and Tom DeLay? He had FEC problems, too.

*UPDATE* Did I forget to mention that Pelosi's resolved problems from last year still don't change the fact that Tom DeLay has been indicted on conspiracy charges?
