“This administration is populated by people who’ve spent their careers bashing government. They’re not just small-government conservatives—they’re Grover Norquist, strangle-it-in-the-bathtub conservatives. It’s a cognitive disconnect for them to be able to do something well in an arena that they have so derided and reviled all these years.”

California state pensions safe for now

I really wish that Arnold had held onto this rock a little longer, but I'm glad to see that the state pension program is safe at least for another year.

The Sacramento Bee writes:
Schwarzenegger's retreat is a huge setback for his multipronged drive aimed at changing the political culture of the Capitol in ways that reduce the influence of public employee unions. And he need look no farther than the closest mirror to assign blame.

Don't the people here know it:
According to the Survey and Policy Research Institute survey conducted last week, Schwarzenegger now has 43 percent support among all adults and 49 percent support from registered voters.

Schwarzenegger's diminished numbers are related to another poll finding that 39 percent of Californians believe the state is on the right track. That number was 52 percent in January, according to institute Director Phil Trounstine.

"The right track/wrong track numbers have basically reversed from the beginning of the year,'' Trounstine said. "People listen to what the governor says and when he's constantly out on the stump arguing the state is a mess it has an effect.''

The poll results show that state residents are beginning to conclude that the governor is contributing to the state's difficulties instead of solving them, according to Trounstine.
