“This administration is populated by people who’ve spent their careers bashing government. They’re not just small-government conservatives—they’re Grover Norquist, strangle-it-in-the-bathtub conservatives. It’s a cognitive disconnect for them to be able to do something well in an arena that they have so derided and reviled all these years.”

Getting involved is half the battle

Reuters has picked up on the Byrd controversy and makes a mistake that I've noticed at other blogs. I sent Reuters the following email:
While reading the online article "Sen Byrd's Hitler Comments Draw Fire," I noticed that you attribute a quote to Byrd when he is actually quoting from Allan Bullock's "Hitler: A Study in Tyranny."

The quote from your article is as follows:

"Hitler never abandoned the cloak of legality; he recognized the enormous psychological value of having the law on his side," the Democrat from West Virginia said. "Instead, he turned the law inside out and made illegality legal."

I'm not sure what you policy is on quoting a quote, but it seems to me misleading to attribute these words soley to Byrd. You can see the speech at Byrd's website and will notice the pertinent text set off in a blogger like blockquote.

Again, I'm uncertain of your policy for quoting, but I wanted to take the time to bring this to your attention.

Thank you for your time
