US Courts once again rule for the Constitution
I like it when judges uphold the Constitution:
In a blow to the Bush Administration, a US court has ruled the Government cannot prevent more than 500 detainees who are challenging their detention at Guantanamo Bay from getting legal representation, or monitor their conversations with lawyers.
The decision, which will have implications for the two Australians, David Hicks and Mamdouh Habib, was handed down by US District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly.
Calling the US Government's case "flimsy", the judge accused it of trying to erode the "bedrock" principle of legal professional privilege, which guarantees the secrecy of communications between lawyers and their clients.
