The upcoming debate
I'm nervous. That's all there is too it. I'm excited yet nervous about a vice presidential debate that will look like two guys sat down at a Barnes and Nobel and began discussing policy issues, while a third party asks them questions.
Who do I give the edge to? I think I'm like the public in general, which has the favorite in the debate split evenly.
MSNBC just showed clips of the Cheney/Lieberman debate. Joe looked like a collegiate volleyball setter, a straight man that let Cheney look like a funny and warm. It should go without saying that Edwards can't do that.
Chris Matthews is scouring the crowd looking for a weakness that Cheney can exploit tonight. No one has anything. I can't imagine Bush/Cheney will have made that mistake.
We will hear the word trial lawyer from Cheney fairly early on, and I hope Edwards can shine as one tonight as he presses the case against the Bush administration. People already don't care much for Cheney as a person, and that cannot be the focus of the Edwards attack. It must be the failures of the administration in general, and an added bonus will be if he can make Dick look lost as he tries to defend those failures.
I've got my fingers crossed.
