“This administration is populated by people who’ve spent their careers bashing government. They’re not just small-government conservatives—they’re Grover Norquist, strangle-it-in-the-bathtub conservatives. It’s a cognitive disconnect for them to be able to do something well in an arena that they have so derided and reviled all these years.”

Ignorance as a family value

Well, if there is any solace to take in the Gay Marriage bill passing in Ohio, it's that it will no doubt be easily overturned. Republican Governor Bob Taft can be added to the list of nuanced politicians, coming out against the gay marriage amendment because it will lead to numerous lawsuits and will more than likely be overturned.

Now, if it weren't odd enough for the Republican Governor to come out against a "defense of marriage" amendment, odder still is the coalition that supports the bill's reply:
Taft's opposition doesn't matter, said Phil Burress, president of Cincinnati-based Citizens for Community Values, which is pushing the amendment.

"It's really unimportant to us what the governor thinks - this is an issue for the people of Ohio," Burress said. "I'm not trying to put him down, I'm just trying to say, what difference does it make?"

Does Phil Burress not hear what the governor is saying? He's telling you the amendment you want is going to fail miserably when it hits the courts. He's warning you that all your effort will ultimately be for nothing. Pay attention to reason for a change rather than your ideology.

Oh, and since when is disdain and disrespect for your elected government officials a "community value," anyway?
