Bush threatens to veto your OT pay
In an effort to appear as a decisive leader who won't allow every single bill passed by the Congress to pass into law, the President has decided to stand up to the bullies in Congress. First, of course, he threaten to veto the 87 billion dollars that went to Iraq if it was considered a loan. Now he takes up an even bigger fight, that of keeping you from you overtime wages.
"At a time when the cost of living is rising and family income is dropping, when gasoline prices, college tuition and health care costs are all going through the roof, Congress should not be chiseling on overtime pay for hardworking people," Obey said.
The new rules, the first major change in overtime regulations in 50 years, guaranteed overtime pay to workers making less than $23,660 a year, while denying time-and-a-half pay to many professionals who had been eligible for overtime under the old rules.
The AFL-CIO union federation has said that as many as 6 million people would lose their right to overtime pay under the new rules, a number disputed by the government and business lobbies.
Compassion. That's all you can call it, really. If we take the money out of the hands of the business owners and give it to the workers, there will be nothing left to trickle down. We have to keep the money in the hands of the wealthy so they can spend it to spur the economy. Don't you get it people?
Sheesh.
