Halliburton admits ties to Iran
So here's the story from CNN/Money:
Oil field services company Halliburton Co. received a grand jury subpoena earlier this month seeking information about its Cayman Islands unit, which conducts operations in Iran, the company said Monday.
Here's why that's a problem:
U.S. companies are prohibited by law from doing business with Iran.
And here's the company's denial it has done anything wrong:
Halliburton officials said the company would comply with the subpoena and reiterated that the company's links to Iran through its Cayman Islands unit were in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Yes, that's right. "The company's links to Iran... were in compliance with applicable laws." So while it may not violate the letter of the law, it seems to violate the nature of it. And we know how good the Bush administration is with nature.
