“This administration is populated by people who’ve spent their careers bashing government. They’re not just small-government conservatives—they’re Grover Norquist, strangle-it-in-the-bathtub conservatives. It’s a cognitive disconnect for them to be able to do something well in an arena that they have so derided and reviled all these years.”

We let the Iraqi people decide

Just about to shut down my new RSS reader when this popped up from BBC News. I feel so informed!

Iraq's US-appointed Governing Council has chosen former Foreign Minister Adnan Pachachi as the country's interim president, officials say.
The decision will be formally announced later on Tuesday, council member Mahmoud Othman told journalists.

Mr Pachachi, 81, was the preferred candidate of the US, while many council members favoured the current leader, Ghazi Yawer.

The interim president will head a new administration from 30 June.

It will be interesting to read tomorrow morning the politics behind it all, especially since most on the IGC claimed that America should let them make their own decisions and keep their nose out of this one.
