With friends like these

Stories like these lead me to believe that Judge Alito won't face the filibuster, he'll pass with much the same vote John Roberts had, and Democrats will occasionally be surprised by his rulings.

He's still going to be a big time letdown from the kind of judge John Kerry could have appointed, but, well, you know.

*UPDATE* Ben Nelson makes me think the above analysis is even more correct.
