Salazar and Dobson
Ken Salazar wants to know what James Dobson knows:
...Salazar said Miers is an "unknown quantity" requiring thorough review.
He also expressed concern over a comment by Focus on the Family founder James Dobson that he supported Miers because of inside information.
"Some of what I know I am not at liberty to talk about," Dobson told The New York Times.
Dobson and other influential conservatives were notified by the White House in advance of Miers' nomination, the Times reported Tuesday.
That, Salazar said, is "troublesome."
"It seems to me that all of what the White House knows about Harriet Miers should in fact be made available to the Senate and the American people," said Salazar, who voted to confirm President Bush's nomination of Chief Justice John Roberts.
Salazar's yes vote on Roberts actually puts him in a good position to wage this battle. Because he can deflect cries of partisanship with his last vote, he can unflinching call for the rest of American to feel as assured as James Dobson does when it comes to Harriet Miers. Because a new poll shows America isn't all that reassured.
And leave it to President Bush to nominate a "consenus" pick that could actually lower his poll numbers due to calls of croynism, an idea that 74% of Americans agree with.
Perhaps an even better question is what would the White House share with James Dobson that they wouldn't share with their Terri Schaivo allies Operation Rescue?
