“This administration is populated by people who’ve spent their careers bashing government. They’re not just small-government conservatives—they’re Grover Norquist, strangle-it-in-the-bathtub conservatives. It’s a cognitive disconnect for them to be able to do something well in an arena that they have so derided and reviled all these years.”

Blame someone else

In light of all the "activist judge" talk coming from the right in light of their failure to act on Terri Schiavo, I asked someone in the real world the other day who they thought Republicans would rather have judge laws. It had got me to thinking about a post on when a member of the GOP would propose abolishing the court system altogether.

Little did I know that Rep Steven King of Iowa had already beat me to the punch. And he's an elected official sworn to uphold the Constitution.

The problem for Republicans is not activist judges. It's that their view of the world on a number of issues is a violation of the law. The worldview they have created comes into direct conflict with the Constitution.

There are a number of things I would like that would prolly violate the law, too. However, I'm not fool enough to think it's a judges fault. They are just upholding the law they are given.
