Bush slips in polls
Yesterday I mentioned Rassmussen had Bush's approval rating down under 50%. Today Ipsos paints an even uglier picture for him:
U.S. President George W. Bush's job- performance rating has slipped in the past month, with a majority of Americans over 50 expressing disapproval, a poll for the Associated Press by Ipsos Public Affairs shows.
The Feb. 7-9 survey found 54 percent disapprove of the president's performance, after a similar AP-Ipsos poll last month showed the nation evenly split. Among those in the 50 to 64 age group, 56 percent disapproved, while 57 percent of those 65 and over disapproved. The 30-39 age group was the only one in which a majority, 51 percent, approved of Bush's performance.
The poll of 1,000 adults has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
The survey was conducted after Bush began his second term on Jan. 20 and as details of his proposed 2006 budget were being released, including measure that would allow younger workers to invest some of their Social Security taxes in private accounts.
57% disapprove of his handing of Iraq even after the election, and 56% disapprove of his handling of the economy. A slim majority disapproves of his handling on terrorism now as well.
It's just a matter of time before Luntz and the boys find some new Bushspeak terms to try and improve his image.
