If at first you don't succeed
Lie, lie again:
President Bush said yesterday that Social Security "is on the road to bankruptcy" and will be unable to pay promised benefits to future generations, raising the stakes in a major political battle with Democrats.
Of course, this doesn't really "raise the stakes" in the battle at all, unless you are an AP writing looking for a cliche to frame Bush's latest statements in.
I will say this again. As a government program, Social Security will not "go bankrupt." Could we say because certain programs don't take any money into the federal government, and therefore spend more than they take in, that these programs are considered bankrupt as well?
Isn't it ironic that Bush's claim that Social Security will be "unable to pay promised benefits" is exactly what will happen if Bush's changes to the system go into effect? I'd like to see that appear in this article as well.
