“This administration is populated by people who’ve spent their careers bashing government. They’re not just small-government conservatives—they’re Grover Norquist, strangle-it-in-the-bathtub conservatives. It’s a cognitive disconnect for them to be able to do something well in an arena that they have so derided and reviled all these years.”

The politics of lies

Katherine Harris is back in the news after lying at a rally for the President in Florida by claiming of a terrorist plot in Indiana. Obviouslly she was just trying to make the man she helped into office look better.
Harris was speaking in Sarasota Monday in support of President Bush’s re-election campaign when she told the audience the mayor of Carmel, Indiana recounted how a man of Middle Eastern heritage had been arrested after hundreds of pounds of explosives were found at his home.

Harris told the Sarasota Herald Tribune, "He had plans to blow up the area's entire power grid."

Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard allegedly told a Florida reporter the man was arrested two years ago and sent to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The FBI and its former chief counsel at the time of the alleged incidents, James Davis, said there is nothing true about the statements, and that no one has been arrested in Indiana and sent to Guantanamo Bay on terrorism or any other charges.
