“This administration is populated by people who’ve spent their careers bashing government. They’re not just small-government conservatives—they’re Grover Norquist, strangle-it-in-the-bathtub conservatives. It’s a cognitive disconnect for them to be able to do something well in an arena that they have so derided and reviled all these years.”

Out of the mouths of RNC chairmen

From a July 9th Conference call with Ed Gillespie, RNC Chairman:
Question: Hi, I just wanted to ask about…you said that Kerry opposed repealing the marriage tax credit and the child credit but I mean from what I understand ever time I’ve heard him speak he opposed, he wants to repeal you know the majority of the tax cuts from people for more than 200,000, but he does support making the marriage tax and the child credit permanent Gillespie: Well every time he’s had an opportunity to vote on the issue he has voted against that and in fact- Small: Because it comes with the package right?

Gillespie: That’s the way bills are passed in the United States House and United States Senate...

Refreshing honesty on part of the part of the RNC. Of course, that wouldn't stand as an answer in itself, so Gillespie does his usual "Kerry will be forced to raise taxes on everyone" song and dance. But for that one shining moment, politics could have been considered fair.
