“This administration is populated by people who’ve spent their careers bashing government. They’re not just small-government conservatives—they’re Grover Norquist, strangle-it-in-the-bathtub conservatives. It’s a cognitive disconnect for them to be able to do something well in an arena that they have so derided and reviled all these years.”

I feel safer already

Remember in May when the FBI announced a summer threat and a a wave of interviews to help prevent it? Well, those interviews have yet to start, apparently:
The FBI announced it would launch a wave of interviews across the country as part of an urgent effort to root out a suspected terror attack planned for the United States this summer.

Preparations for the attack were 90 percent complete, Attorney General John Ashcroft warned at the time.

Preparations for the interviews are another story. It's already July, and the FBI is still weeks away from launching the initiative, law enforcement officials confirmed.

By that time the summer will be almost over. Gone already are the G8 Summit and the 4th of July activites that were suspected targets. I guess we all got lucky there. Or maybe those who claim it was a press conference to distract us from Iraq were right? Hopefully we will never know.
