“This administration is populated by people who’ve spent their careers bashing government. They’re not just small-government conservatives—they’re Grover Norquist, strangle-it-in-the-bathtub conservatives. It’s a cognitive disconnect for them to be able to do something well in an arena that they have so derided and reviled all these years.”

Rhymes with dipthocracy...

Remember about a month ago, when you were paying the highest price for gas ever recorded? And Republicans were shocked and outraged that the Democrats would politicize the issue? I'm thinking of a nine letter word. Starts with an "h."

From the Washington Post:
"With gasoline prices at $2 per gallon it's time to allow some drilling," said Rep. Joe Barton, who led the energy debate along with Majority Leader Tom DeLay, also from Texas.

What would the Barton bill do for America?
The refinery bill, sponsored by Barton, would expedite federal consideration of applications to build refineries in poor areas. It would give the Energy Department authority to override objections from the Environmental Protection Agency and state governors and approve projects where unemployment is 20 percent above the national average.

I guess Barton feels if you are unemployed, you have nothing to live for anyway, so you may as well destroy the environment around you.
